LPDstudios Blog- Pinterest Pick- Jasper Johns
By Lisa Parmer Ditty
Happy 4th of July
Flag by Jasper Johns -1954
"
One night I dreamed that I painted a large American flag" Johns had said. This iconic piece of artwork is created from plywood, canvas and newspaper. Johns used encaustic paint, a method of mixing molten bees wax and pigment. This technique created bumps, smudges and smears bringing the art off the canvas and creating a 3 dimensional effect also allowing the viewer to see the newspaper and canvas beneath the color.
